Main duties of the job

The orthoptic team at Southampton Eye Unit have a vacancy for a full-time band 6 orthoptist. Applications from student orthoptists qualifying this summer would be considered but would be appointed at band 5 for the first year.

We provide a wide variety of clinical orthoptics and the opportunity to develop into extended roles. You will be joining a friendly and supportive team of 13 orthoptists working closely with four paediatric ophthalmologists - two with an ocular motility specialism, two neuro-ophthalmologists, optometrists, vision scientists and a dedicated orthoptic reception and administration team.

There is also be the opportunity to train to deliver intra-vitreal injections for patients with age-related macular degeneration.

Audit and continuing professional development are encouraged in the department, and we have regular teaching sessions. We are a placement centre for orthoptic undergraduate students, and depending on your experience, you would be a clinical tutor.
