Main duties of the job
This appointment is for one or more Senior Clinical Fellows in Haematology, based at Southampton General Hospital.
You will work within consultant-led subspecialty haematology teams, alongside specialty registrars, rotating on a 3-6 monthly basis. This will include inpatient, day case and outpatient management of haematology patients, experience of practical procedures, clinical trials and liaison with other medical and surgical teams.
The posts are open to individuals with experience in internal medicine and/or clinical haematology. The posts are available for 6 to 12 months and will predominantly be based within inpatient teams but there may be opportunity to tailor to fit the interests of candidates, including those post-CCT or who have undertaken haematology training oversees who wish to obtain specific subspecialty experience.
You will also benefit from education and training alongside the Specialty Registrars in haematology and participate in quality improvement projects and laboratory activities subject to your experience. There may be the option to contribute to the haematology on-call rota depending on experience.
Southampton has a comprehensive research active Clinical Haematology department, incorporating Haematological oncology, Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy, Transfusion Medicine, Diagnostic and Liaison Haematology, Haemoglobinopathies, Immune Haematology and Haemostasis & Thrombosis services.
