Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Wessex Blood and Marrow and Cellular Therapy team as the allogenic stem cell transplant coordinator clinical nurse specialist. We are a regional service that provides treatments for patients requiring cellular therapies for malignant and non malignant conditions. We are committed to providing patients and their families the best care throughout their treatment pathway and are proud to have some of the best patient outcomes in Europe. Our specialist nursing team includes a Lead Nurse BMT and Cellular Therapy (BMTCT) and a senior CNS BMTCT as well as CNSs for autologous, allogeneic and CAR T cell therapy. There are also three Co-ordinator CNS roles of which this is one.

We work closely with clinical teams in 14 referring hospitals. Our service is JACIE and HTA accredited. We have apheresis on site and manage our sibling donor harvests there. We consistently have excellent risk adjusted benchmarking outcomes for stem cell transplant.

As the allogeneic transplant coordinator CNS you will have primary responsibility for the provision of specialist nursing for people undergoing allogeneic blood and marrow transplantation. Practicing autonomously as a core member of the multi-disciplinary team, you will work closely with all members of the co-ordination team. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in transplant nursing and undertake a range of nurse led activities with the appropriate training.
You will be the identified key worker for a patient/client caseload to co-ordinate treatment and care. You will provide specialist advice, education and support to patients, carers and other health care professionals.
You will work with the transplant team to provide seamless care for patients undergoing blood and marrow transplantation.
You will work with the transplant team to help continue with the development of the service. You will lead the inception of personalised care in the allogeneic pathway.
You will develop key collaborative working relationships with a number of external partners. These will include clinical teams at referring hospitals, clinical scientists at relevant laboratories and NHSBT and coordinating teams at the unrelated donor registries.
You will be involved in the development and delivery of transplant nursing education and have key responsibilities in relation to governance.
You will have education and training responsibilities and will line manage the care coordinator for the pathway..You will need to have recent relevant experience of working at band 6 or above within this speciality.
You will be self motivated to develop, have excellent communication skills, able to work autonomously within the Multi-disciplinary team, and demonstrate excellent decision making skills.
