Main duties of the job

The Wessex Fetal Medicine Unit offers advanced care and assistance to families facing complex pregnancies, both in the local area and across the region. This dedicated team specialises in comprehensive scanning, diagnostic evaluations, care coordination, and emotional support for expectant individuals and their families.

A unique chance has emerged to aid the staff of the Fetal Medicine Unit in delivering empathetic and all-encompassing care to these families. These families require substantial compassionate support and greatly appreciate a smooth, uninterrupted, and confident service. Consequently, the post holder will support and facilitate the team, allowing them to focus their expertise on those with complex pregnancy-related challenges.

The maternity support worker in the Fetal Medicine Team will provide support to the team and the families throughout their journey within the Fetal Medicine department. This role includes assisting the team, especially the midwives, to ensure that care during fetal medicine appointments is delivered efficiently, promptly, and with compassion, while also maintaining good continuity with other or referring services.

The goal of this position is to free up time for trained professionals to apply their expertise in caring for pregnant individuals and their families, while also ensuring that tasks suitable for the maternity support worker are carried out.

We seek an individual who is enthusiastic, positive, and approachable, thriving in a dynamic yet caring environment. You will be dedicated to making sure our families experience the care and compassion that our team strives to provide at every visit. Attention to detail and effective communication are crucial, as is a good telephone presence and reliability in handling and relaying messages. Proficiency with the necessary IT systems is important, although training and support will be provided.

In this essential role you will: Utilise venesection skills. Complete clinical observations. Ensure the environment is prepared appropriately. Ensure stock is available and ready for use. Process referrals. Chasing outstanding blood results, screening / scan reports. Uploading information to viewpoint and Badgernet.

  • Level 3 qualification in healthcare, e.g. NVQ, Diploma or equivalent
