Main duties of the job

There is an exciting opportunity for a pharmacy technician or science manufacturing technician to become part of the clinical trials pharmacy aseptic team focusing on the delivery of aseptic clinical trials at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, by working in our oncology, CIVAS and advanced therapy units. The role will involve set-up, preparation and dispensing of aseptic products for clinical trials and building worksheets on our in-house compounding system to allow the safe and efficient manufacture of clinical trials.

You will work closely with the specialist pharmacist teams in clinical trials, advanced therapies, haematology/oncology and our technical services team, as well as the research teams to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of investigational medicinal products (IMPs) in compliance with regulatory standards and protocols.

This role will also involve a weekend working commitment in the aseptic units, which would be half a day every 6 weeks.

What experience/skills are needed:Pre- and in-process checking within aseptic unit(s) (PIPC) accreditation is desired but not mandatory. If not already accredited, the successful candidate for this role would undertake the Pre and In Process checking (PIPC) qualification and complete associated competencies required for sign off in post.

You will need great attention to detail, organisational skills, knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and be passionate about providing high standards of patient care to patients enrolled on clinical trials.

  • One of the following additional pharmacy qualifications - Accredited Checking PT (ACPT) Pre and In Processing Checking (PIPC) medicine management accreditation , TAQA assessor , CIPS level 4, foundation management or equivalent demonstrable experience of day to day operational management of staff and workload.
  • Experience of staff management/operational workload supervision

  • Completion of Practice supervisor programme or equivalent.
