Job summary

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

Please see below for detailed job description of the role.

Main duties of the job

The Biomedical Imaging Unit (BIU) is a central imaging facility which carries out diagnostic and research microscopy for both UHS and the University of Southampton.

The BIU team of 13 staff carries out electron microscopy on a broad range of diagnostic specimens in addition to carrying out research for the Faculty of Medicine and the wider University. This nationally important unit is extremely well equipped with 2D and 3D imaging equipment using light, X-ray and electron microscopes.

Applications are invited for a band 4 Assistant Practitioner to work in the BIU. You don't have to have experience in microscopy but you do have to want to become a microscopist. We will provide the training.

This post may be undertaken as an Apprenticeship if the successful candidate meets the entrance criteria laid out in the person specification. In this case degree fees will be paid and as part of the programme you will be able to complete a portfolio to gain state registration as a Biomedical Scientist.

This is a great opportunity to work in the health care sector, gain a degree, gain state registration and become a microscopist! So, if all this appeals to you and you are enthusiastic and work well as part of a team then we would like to hear from you.

We encourage informal enquiries to Regan Doherty, Biomedical Imaging Unit Deputy Manager on 023 8120 4807 or email: regan.doherty@uhs.nhs.uk
