Job responsibilities

WHAT YOU WILL DO

As a Clinical Research Project Manager, you will have responsibility for the oversight of set up and management of the NIHR CRF research study portfolio. This is a diverse role and responsibilities will include:

Managing a team of staff to ensure trials are coordinated, prepared, set up, conducted and closed effectively within the NIHR CRF and conducted to required standards (ICH-GCP, EU Directive, U.K. laws and other applicable laws and regulations).

Ensuring trials in the NIHR CRF portfolio are planned, set up, conducted and closed within the defined timeframe, budget and quality requirements including implementation of systems and processes where required.

Maintaining oversight of management and coordination of early phase, experimental medicine and complex clinical research studies within the NIHR CRF.

Providing a specialist role, giving expert support to Chief and Principal Investigators and patients participating in NIHR research studies.

Significant experience in conducting or organising research in the NHS or other research settings.

Knowledge of current legislation regarding research governance issues.

Exceptional attention to detail and organisation skills.

Exceptional communication skills and the ability to lead a team.

Person Specification

Qualifications / training required

Essential

• Educated to degree level or equivalent
• Specialist qualification or significant experience In Project Management
• Evidence of on-going professional development
• International Conference on Harmonisation/Good Clinical Practice (ICH/GCP) training

Desirable

• PhD/MSc in biomedical science

Previous or relevant experience necessary

Essential

• Experience in research management
• Research background
• Advanced understanding of Microsoft applications for managing and analysing information, e.g. Word and Excel
• Awareness of current legislation regarding research governance issues
• Awareness of current legislation regarding research governance issues
• Significant experience in conducting or organising clinical research trials within NHS setting
• Detailed knowledge of the changes in funding and research management within the NHS and in particular relating to the CLRN and NIHR portfolio
• Experienced in reviewing paperwork relating to research to extract information required for a specific purpose
• Recent experience in project management of large/complex studies
• Knowledge of UK Framework for Health and Social Care Research

Desirable

• Recent NHS experience
• Experience of budgetary control and costing of commercial, non-commercial research
• Experience in grant costs and management with relevant grant bodies (e.g. MRC)
