Job summary

We are looking for two highly motivated Research Data Analysts to join us in the rapidly expanding Data & AI team within the Research and development department at Southampton General Hospital.The role of a Specialist Data Analyst in our team offers numerous opportunities for development and professional growth.

Proficiency in SQL is essential as part of our technology stack.

This post forms part of a team created to support the delivery of the Southampton Emerging Therapies and Technologies (SETT) Centre. As part of SETT, the Data & AI team works to drive future transformation in patient care through the streamlined extraction of high-quality data at scale, and the application of state-of-the-art analytical techniques to drive research.

By developing a data landscape friendly to research, we aim to expand Trustwide research capacity and improve patient outcomes by helping to shape the future of medicine. This is a creative and rapidly evolving unit within the hospital's R&D environment, and successful candidates will have the exciting opportunity to help shape its direction and long-term aims.

The Data & AI team works closely with Research and development to support clinical and academic researchers. The team collaborate with groups working within a variety of speciality domains across the hospital and university. These range from national collaborations to drive big data research efforts across the NHS, to the in-house development of novel and experimental tools to streamline data analytics, to tackling significant operational challenges such as complex discharges and patient flow through the deployment of machine learning algorithms.Working closely with other analysts and data scientists in the team, you will:

Develop automated SQL extraction pipelines to produce high-quality datasets for research projects, from cohort identification to transformation and standardisation of results Support the teams aims to expand research capacity within the hospital Work collaboratively with healthcare practitioners, academics, operational teams, and research groups Support the teams efforts to develop in-house, innovative tools to streamline data research, and help to direct the teams longer-term aims

The following skills and experience would position a candidate well for this role: Educated to degree level in a numerate or scientific discipline, with demonstrable working experience of a critical and analytical approach to problem-solving Proficiency in SQL, and experience working with large clinical or commercial databases At least two years experience in a statistical, research, or analytical role (either commercial or health-related), including experience working with sensitive data Experience in a client-facing environment with good interpersonal and communication skills, and experience in active collaboration within a larger team A desire to continue developing data science skills from the wider teams combined expertise, including Python, statistics, and machine learning.
