Job summary
Online applications are invited for the post of Consultant Vascular Surgeon at University Hospital Southampton (UHS). This is a permanent post expected to start in December 2023, to replace a colleague who has relocated. The successful applicant will have completed full subspecialty training in Vascular Surgery. It is expected that the successful applicant will have a broad set of vascular surgical skills and experience.
The post holder will be a member of a team of 9 vascular surgeons and 6 interventional radiologists providing cover for the Wessex Vascular Network (WVN). The post is based at UHS, which is the vascular centre of the WVN. The Network includes Queen Alexandra Hospital (Portsmouth), St. Mary's Hospital (IOW), Royal Hampshire County Hospital (Winchester) and serves a population of 2 million. The vascular service works closely with cardiothoracic, diabetic and stroke services.
The department provides the full range of open vascular and endovascular interventions, with a dedicated vascular theatre, hybrid suite, vascular ward and a team of advanced nurse practitioners and vascular nurse specialists. UHS offers ample opportunities for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and excellent facilities for research and clinical care.
Main duties of the job
Undertake the full range of vascular elective and emergency duties of a consultant vascular surgeon
- Work based at UHS and be part of a team that provide on-site clinics and review of inpatient at spoke hospitals.
- Provide on-call cover for the network on a 1:9 on-call rota including surgeon-of-the-week role
- Perform duties in line with an agreed job plan and support the education of junior staff
