Job summary

Online applications are invited for the post of Consultant Paediatrician in Sleep Medicine (neurological) at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. This is a permanent appointment. The successful applicant will have completed specialty training in paediatrics, at least 2 years WTE in paediatric sleep medicine and have sub-speciality certification in sleep medicine.

Southampton Children's Hospital provides a paediatric service to the children of Southampton has a population of 400,000. In addition, the Trust provides tertiary regional services in Allergy, Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Clinical Genetics, Dermatology, Endocrinology, ENT, Gastro-enterology, Haematology, Infectious Diseases & Immunology, Neonatology, Nephrology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Respiratory Paediatrics, Rheumatology, Surgery and Urology. The total tertiary population serviced by Southampton University Hospital NHS Trust is approximately 2.8 million.

WHAT YOULL DO:

The post holder will join a multi-disciplinary team of 18 professionals (3 part-time consultants, 2 clinical nurse specialists, 3 psychologists, 4 sleep practitioners and 5 sleep physiologists and a pharmacist). They will contribute to outpatient assessment, interpretation of sleep diagnostics and treatment of children with a range of sleep disorders (non-respiratory), training and education within the Southampton Sleep Training programme and will provide consultant leadership for the neuro-sleep physiology team.

WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR

We are looking to appoint a well-motivated individual with paediatric sleep medicine experience and professional certification in the field. The department has a strong ethos in education and research and the successful applicant will be expected to contribute to this activity. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate their competence to communicate in spoken and written English. Applicants should have a CCT or be on the GMCs Specialist Register. Applicants who are within six months of obtaining their CCT on the date of the AAC may also apply.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Individuals wishing to apply must be fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and should be either already on or within 6 months of eligibility to be included on the specialist register of the GMC.

  • APLS Certification or equivalent
  • Level 3 training in child protection
