Job summary

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and innovative Specialist Cardiac Physiologist to join our CRM and Echo teams. The post is included in our R&R reward scheme which will see the appointed applicant receive a £5000 bonus payment after two years of continuous employment.

This role will provide valuable opportunities to develop skills in transthoracic echocardiography, and once BSE-accredited, further development in areas such as contrast and physiologist-led services.

The successful applicant will have specialist skills in cardiac implantable electronic device (CIED) follow-up. CIED follow-up at UHS includes onsite and remote follow-up of adult and paediatric/ACHD patients. Devices followed-up range from simple ILRs and single chamber pacemakers through to CRT-Ds, leadless pacemakers and subcutaneous ICDs. Our CRM department serves the largest remote follow-up population in the UK.

We are a vibrant and diverse BSE-accredited department, collectively performing around 30,000 echocardiograms each year on all ages. Our team are involved in a wide range of specialist services including congenital and paediatric echocardiography, TOE, stress echo, physiologist-led clinics. We pride ourselves on actively supporting continual professional development through educational and mentoring sessions.

There are 3 key attributes we are looking for:

  • A good foundational knowledge of echocardiography including physics and instrumentation, the BSE minimum transthoracic dataset and methods to assess a broad range of common cardiac pathology. A good foundational knowledge of cardiac rhythm management and the interrogation and analysis of these devices onsite and remotely.
  • Enthusiasm to continue your professional development and evidence of this.
  • Someone who is able to work well in a team of diverse and specialist cardiac physiologists

In addition to these attributes, you must hold a suitable qualification (BSc Clinical Physiology or equivalent) with at least 1 year post qualification experience in echocardiography or cardiac rhythm management. BSE accreditation in adult transthoracic echocardiography or IBHRE or BHRS accreditation or equivalent is desirable but not essential. We would expect you to be working towards BSE accreditation.

RCCP/HCPC registration is desirable.

Applicants should be highly self-motivated and possess excellent interpersonal skills.

Evidence of post qualification CPD is essential.
