Job description

Job responsibilities

The Child Clinical Psychology department consists of 20 Clinical Psychologists and three Admin staff as well as Trainees and Assistants. We are a friendly and supportive team with good arrangements for supervision and further learning. The Child Psychology team provides a strong and supportive base from which we can give our best to the children and families we meet, as well as to our multidisciplinary colleagues. As a team we place a strong emphasis on self-care and on supporting one another. This means that there are clear job plans and people are encouraged to maintain a good work/life balance. The positive working atmosphere and the opportunities for development mean we have a long track record of retaining staff within the team.

This advert includes sessions for input to the specialisms of diabetes, ophthalmology and cardiothoracic as well as a newly funded multi-specialty post. The purpose of this new post is to provide psychological input to inpatient wards (0.4wte), to oversee the further development of our programme of groups (0.2wte) and to provide outpatient therapy to children and families from some medical specialties which do not currently have psychology input (0.4wte). The post-holder will collaborate closely with existing colleagues who provide input to general paediatrics and to the team duty system. A clear job plan will be discussed and agreed as we consider it essential that staff do not work beyond their capacity.

Given the large psychology team, medical and allied healthcare colleagues are very familiar with the contribution clinical psychologists make and our input is highly valued in the Childrens Hospital. There is lots of supervision and informal support within the team.

Sessions will be allocated depending on the interests of applicants and the fit of their experience with the teams involved.

Your Responsibilities What youll do

The post-holder will apply a range of psychological models in a flexible way to work directly with children, young people and their families and also indirectly through liaison and consultation, building relationships with medical teams and psychology colleagues. The post holder will develop an understanding of the psychological needs of patients and develop appropriate resources and interventions to meet these needs.

What were looking for

Prior experience of working in with children who have health issues as a clinical psychologist is essential. It is essential that the post holder works well as part of a multidisciplinary team. Flexible working is supported.

Interviews will be held on Tuesday 29th November 2022.
