Job description
Job responsibilities
What youll do:
You will be encouraged to undertake further clinical training in, for example, ultrasound, procedural sedation and regional anaesthesia. Those ACPs who are instructors on life support courses are afforded paid time to participate in teaching to maintain instructor status and will have access to a range of additional courses offered by the clinical skills. UHS has a strong research focus and there are many opportunities to take part in quality improvement activities both within the department and the larger hospital.
The role of trainee ACP involves a programme of academic and work-placed based education, culminating in credentialing as an ACP with the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM). Successful candidates will be enrolled on an MSc Advanced Clinical Practitioner course at a local HEI, undertaking a range of clinically-focused modules in line with the requirements for the role, including independent prescribing (if not already held). You will also attend regional study days, life support courses such as ALS and ETC, and regular teaching sessions within the department. Supervision is provided on a 1-to-1 and group basis with monthly team meetings.
Regular educational and clinical supervision will be provided by a named Consultant and the Lead ACP. A range of formative and summative workplace-based assessments in practice will be completed throughout the programme to demonstrate progression and competence against the RCEM curriculum, recorded on the Kaizen e-portfolio.
What were looking for:
We are looking to appoint healthcare professionals with experience in assessing patients, arranging investigations, considering differential diagnoses and implementing a management plan. It is likely that trainees will come from a paramedic, or nurse practitioner background although this programme has recently opened up to suitably qualified and experienced physiotherapists and pharmacists. You and must hold a professional undergraduate qualification and registration with no fitness to practice restrictions.
Due to the high educational demands of this programme, previous academic study at Level 7 (Masters) is essential, along with a recognised qualification in history taking and physical assessment.
We would welcome applications from trainee ACPs and other advanced practitioners who are working at this level and may have completed some elements of the portfolio. The trainee role is at Agenda for Change Band 7 with uplift to Band 8a on successful credentialing with RCEM. Therefore, the length of the training period may vary, dependent on previous experience and achievement of academic modules and RCEM competencies.
