We are expanding our high performing and world class Ophthalmology Team and are now looking for two Medical Retina Consultants to join us.

As one of Southampton General Hospital's largest departments, the unit deals with around 90,000 patients annually through its eye emergencies, outpatients and inpatients and surgery departments. The eye unit is proud to have state-of-the-art equipment and facilities and is constantly developing new treatments for blindness.

Main duties of the job

YOUR MAIN DUTIES

What you'll do

  • At Southampton Eye Unit, you will join us as a new member of our regional referral centre for complex medical retina problem in Hampshire
  • You will join a vibrant medical retina team, including eight medical retina consultants, three specialist doctors, three retinal fellows and a clinical trial research team
  • You will join a unit that is very well equipped for retinal imaging and electrophysiology with multiple retinal camera (Optos, Heidelberg and Topcon)

What we're looking for

  • You will ideally hold FRCOphth or equivalent qualification and hold full GMC registration with a license to practice
  • You will have evidence of treating medical retina conditions and interpretation of investigations (eg OCT and fluorescein angiography)
  • You will have experience of providing intravitreal injections
  • You will demonstrate our UHS Values: Patients First, Always Improving, Working Together

More on the team

Southampton ophthalmology service has four dedicated state-of-the-art eye theatres in Southampton and Lymington, recently refurbished with new equipment including intraoperative OCT and Ngenuity. We have a dedicated injection suite of four cubicles, eye casualty unit and ward. In October we will complete an expansion of outpatients with extensive additional clinic space, imaging rooms and diagnostic equipment.
