Job summary

The Wessex Clinical Genetics Service (WCGS) is offering an exciting opportunity to take up a 12 month fixed term post within this forward thinking department. We are looking for a full time Genetic Counsellor or Genomics Nurse to join an expanding, dynamic Genomics Service to develop, shape and implement Genomic Testing pathways for patients with Lynch Syndrome. You will develop and deliver training and education for clinical staff. We envisage this being a very rewarding role, with the ability to impact and improve pathways for people with Lynch Syndrome and subsequently their relatives.

ABOUT THE TEAM

WCGS covers a population of over 3 million in the Wessex region (Hampshire, Dorset, South Wiltshire and Isle of Wight/Channel Islands). The post will involve liaison with many specialties and other Trusts within the WCGS. The post holder will work Monday-Friday 9-5 hours and will be based at the Princess Anne Hospital, Southampton.

What youll do

  • Act as a clinical expert to lead the development, implementation and integration of Lynch syndrome testing across Wessex for patients with a diagnosis of colorectal and endometrial cancer.

  • Identify training requirements and design an education package for the above services to equip for future service development

What were looking for

  • Able to travel to hospitals across the Wessex region
  • MSc Genetic Counselling (following BSc/BA in a relevant subject) or STP Genomic Counselling and registered with HCPC OR RGN with BSc in a relevant subject, working towards MSc
  • Experience of leading and developing education and training sessions.

  • Wide breath of specialty knowledge

Desirable

  • Registered Genetic Counsellor with GCRB
  • Teaching qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in genetic counselling
  • Experience within the NHS
  • Proficient in the use of all hospital computerised patient systems.
  • Experience of leading and developing education and training sessions
  • Experience with Cancer Genetics

Desirable

  • Experience of service development
