Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Older Peoples Care Unit Community Mental Health Speech and Language Therapy Service for a Band 7 Clinical Specialist Speech and Language Therapist.

You would join existing part-time band 7 Clinical Specialist SLTs, who have national reputations in the field of dementia care and will encourage your professional development through CPD opportunities.

The successful candidate will be joining a growing and supportive team of SLTs in mental health services for older people. In collaboration with the other part-time Clinical Specialists, the post offers opportunities for service development, supervision and training of others and leadership. The post will be supported by the Care Unit AHP Lead.

The successful applicant will work clinically across a range of established community mental health teams in Nottinghamshire. You will work with service users, their families, carers and the MDT to provide highly specialist clinical and professional expertise in order that those with a diagnosis of dementia who present with communication and/or dysphagia needs benefit from a well-coordinated pro-active, specialist, efficient and effective SLT service. You will support supervision and development of more junior SLT colleagues in the care unit.

The post holder will have advanced communication skills and be a strong team player and leader. They will be flexible and have an innovative approach to patient care and efficient service delivery.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will share the lead responsibility, in consultation with peers and the AHP Lead, for providing a highly specialist SLT service. They will be flexible and have an innovative approach to patient-centred care and efficient service delivery.

They will be an autonomous practitioner providing a highly specialist SLT service within settings and have responsibility for managing their own caseload. The post holder will support junior staff, ensuring high quality supervision, appraisal, and development in conjunction with other SLT clinical specialists.

The post holder will work alongside the multidisciplinary team participating in team meetings where possible, audit, and research projects. They will plan, deliver, and evaluate training within the setting to other professionals on all aspects of SLT.
