Job summary
There are two ECT suites within Nottinghamshire Healthcare, one based at Blossomwood Mental Health Unit in Mansfield and another at the Queens Medical Centre, Lenton, Nottingham. The role of the lead ECT Practitioner is to manage and co-ordinate a suite, ensure the effective and safe delivery of treatment.
The role at Blossomwood also includes a depot and clozapine clinic run out of the ECT suite.
Open to all registered nurses.
The service is part of the Adult Mental Health directorate of Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, but will deliver treatment to all service users of the Trust for whom these interventions are the appropriate clinical treatment option.
Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust deliver mental health services to all individuals requiring the involvement of secondary mental health services across Nottinghamshire in a variety of community and inpatient settings .
Main duties of the job
The lead ECT Practitioner will be responsible for the oversight of ECT suite.
The job will include the co-ordination of the staff, patients and equipment, safe administration of ECT under the direction of a consultant psychiatrist and development of the service.
The post at Blossomwood will also include responsibility for a depot and clozapine clinic.
The post holder will demonstrate enthusiasm and positive attitude to working in Electro convulsive therapy, solid communication skills and effective organisation skills.

This payment is only eligible to new starters who do not already hold a contract of employment with the Trust. To explain and safely administer Electro-Convulsive Therapy (ECT) treatment to patients with treatment resistant depression under the direction of a consultant psychiatrist
To initiate follow up treatment for established patients independently.
To fulfil duties of the role with enthusiasm and have positive attitude to working in ECT services.
To record patients physical observations (pulse, blood pressure, oxygen saturation) before, during and after ECT treatment.
To coordinate the booking of ECT treatment sessions in coordination with the patient, and members of the clinical team.
To monitor patients for adverse effects before, during and after receiving ECT treatment.
To provide medical interventions in an emergency situation including management of cardiac arrest, seizure and syncope.
To address any patient discomfort.
To ensure that ECT equipment is safely positioned and maintained in line with the trust polices.
To maintain patient confidentiality and treat patients with dignity and respect.
To follow established ECT protocols and clinical governance procedures.
To communicate effectively with the ECT Clinical Lead and other members of the team locally and other sites.
To maintain a high degree of precision regarding ECT administration, in terms of localisation of stimulation site, safe administration and patient monitoring.
To provide supervision to staff within the department.
To work with the Royal College of Psychiatrists to ensure that standards for ECT are upheld.
To ensure robust governance arrangements are in place for the safe delieevery of treatment.
To work with patients and carers to improve their experience of the treatment.
