Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed, compassionate and innovative Research Support Officer to support research which aims to explore the experiences of parents and carers of young people belonging to an ethnic minority group accessing mental health services for their child with suspected or diagnosed neurodevelopmental disorders. The role-holder will be delivering 4 key streams of work, which include engaging patients and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) members in the research, conducting and analysing qualitative (interviews/focus groups) and quantitative(surveys) data from parents, children, health and education professionals.
The research is funded bythe NIHR Research for Patient Benefit (RfBP) Exploring the EXPeriences of Accessing services and understanding Neurodevelopmental Disorders for ethnic minorities in England EXPAND study.
This is a fixed-term post to 31st December 2025 at 1.0 WTE, with an anticipated start date of 1st July 2024 (18 months in post dependent on start date). The role holder will be within the Research Support Team at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) reporting to Dr Charlotte Hall, Chief Investigator on the EXPAND programme and Shireen Patel (co-investigator and work package lead) and Dr Camilla Babbage (co-investigator and work package lead).
The team provides consultancy services, research operations and research and evaluation delivery. The role-holder will be employed by Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
Main duties of the job
- Support with reports to ethic committees and funders
- Identifying, recruiting and consenting participants (healthcare and teaching professionals and parents/carers of young people and young people with possible or definite neurodevelopmental disorders to participate in focus groups, interviews. The young people will be from ethnic minority backgrounds.
- Facilitating and actively engaging patient and public involvement
- Overseeing data collection and checking of data quality.
- Co-ordinating and conducting online interviews and focus groups and conducting a national online survey with health and educational professionals. Participants in the focus groups/interviews may not all speak fluent English and these focus groups may be conducted in different languages (interpreter support provided). Analysing and presenting data at meetings, reports for funders and publications
- Organising and attending team meetings
- Engaging with stakeholders from NHS and other academic institutions and other organisations, including the Centre for Ethnic Health Research
- Supporting the team with dissemination
- Assisting with other research tasks as agreed with their line manager.
