Job summary

Following a management restructure the newly designed post of Lead Nurse for Urgent Care now looking for the right candidature.

The Lead Nurse for Urgent Care will form part of the senior nursing leadership team within the Physical healthcare Service Based at Rampton High Secure hospital, the largest of it's type in the UK.

We would like to hear from you if are a committed individual with the following attributes;

  • Registered Adult Nurse with at least 5 years' experience.
  • Bachelor of Science/ Arts
  • Evidence of Post graduate development at Master Level.
  • Advanced Life Support Qualification
  • Teaching or mentorship qualification with sign off mentor status.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in the management of patient's urgent care needs such as minor illness and injury management, wound closure etc.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will use their acquired expert knowledge base, complex decision-making skills and competences to lead a dedicated team of urgent care nurses in delivering High Quality urgent physical healthcare. The post holder will draw upon their experience in healthcare leadership and management to undertake several core functions, including:

To be responsible for the clinical management and leadership of the Urgent Care stream of the Physical Healthcare Service within Rampton High Secure Hospital.

To be responsible for the day to day running of the Urgent Care Service in all elements of human and physical resources.

To ensure clinical effectiveness by monitoring of key quality markers and benchmarks.

Provide strong, visible, and credible clinical leadership to a range of healthcare professionals within the Service

Be an expert clinical resource for the service and hospital in elements of urgent physical healthcare.

To deputize for the Head of Service as necessary.

About us

The Urgent Care team is a fast paced, dynamic team with staff from various disciplines working together to deliver a wide range of urgent and unplanned care interventions. Urgent and primary healthcare nurses work together to provide high quality, efficient evidence-based physical healthcare in a mental healthcare setting. The post holder will demonstrate courageous and critical thinking and is a caring, compassionate, and committed experienced Nurse who, acting within their professional boundaries, will led a team providing care for the presenting patient, often those with severe and enduring mental health difficulties and challenging behaviours.

The physical healthcare service is passionate about training and development and the service will push you to be the best practitioner you can be, with development budgets and training resources available.

The Urgent Care service is based in a recently refurbished physical healthcare centre, with state-of-the-art equipment and IT solutions including telemedicine with the acute hospital. Patient reviews and treatment are conducted on the mental wards with support of mental health staff.

To proactively access own clinical and management supervision to achieve personal development objectives.

To lead on recruitment and retention of staff members of Physical Healthcare Urgent Care Service.

Clinical Governance and Risk

To support leadership in the Clinical Governance agenda and apply risk management systems, supporting the Head of Service to manage the services clinical risks.

Implement evidence based / best practice in line with National Service Frameworks and NICE guidance.

Participate in all relevant research and audit activity.

Promote and maintain good practice in record keeping and information governance by self and the team to ensure Trust and professional standards are met.

Handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.

Continually evaluate through processes of audit and benchmarking and patient feedback the clinical effectiveness of the services delivered and support the Head of Service in quality improvement projects.

To adhere to the hospital and trust security standards and contribute to the further development of partnership working within the environments, ensuring that staff adhere to all policies and procedures.

Establish and maintain strong professional relationships with individuals, ward nursing staff and all members of the multi-disciplinary team, providing advice and support as appropriate.

Use initiatives to problem solve and respond effectively to issues within the Urgent Care and wider Service.

Promote and maintain best practice that ensures the health safety and security of self, patients, and colleagues in accordance with the policies, procedures and guidelines of the hospital and trust.

Safe administration of medication in accordance with National, Trust and Local policies

Build strong working relationships with external healthcare providers to scope and manage pathways of care to specialist and secondary care providers in partnership with the Head of Service.
