Job summary
Applications are invited from candidates for a 12-month Clinical Fellow post in Palliative Medicine, to commence in August 2023. The post is ideally suited to an individual who has satisfactorily completed Foundation Year 1 & 2 training and is considering a career in Palliative Medicine; and who wishes to gain experience in Specialist Palliative Care, including research, service improvement or teaching before commencing Core Specialty Training.
Main duties of the job
The Clinical Fellow will work primarily on the 12-bedded hospice in-patient unit where they will clerk in new patients, undertake independent and senior-led ward rounds and be a key part of the day to day running of the ward. Time on the in-patient unit is invaluable: it gives opportunities to learn about advanced symptom control and focus on communication skills with observation and supervised consultations.
The Fellow will regularly contribute to the John Eastwood Hospice first on-call rota with the support of consultant colleagues. Community experience can be provided with the Specialist Palliative Care Outreach team and domiciliary visits and outpatients at the hospice with consultants.
