Job summary

These posts are subject to National NHS T&Cs, paid enhancements for unsocial hours working during nights, weekends and bank holidays and we offer a Golden Hello payment of £2,750 to new starters with the Trust in this role (payable in instalments over a 2 year period)

Exciting new development of an RGN post to work with our existing services to deliver high quality physical health care in our mental health inpatient settings. We have one vacancy for a full time RGN to join our team covering inpatient wards and 136 services at the new Sherwood Oaks Hospital in Mansfield.

Adult Mental Health Services are fast paced and dynamic and we welcome individuals who have a real passion for delivering quality outcomes.

Main duties of the job

To take a lead on nursing related physical healthcare delivery with direct contact and intervention with patients. To support the existing workforce in delivering physical healthcare and take an active role in training and developing that workforce in delivery of basic physical healthcare monitoring and treatment. Take part in multi-disciplinary team meetings and support staff in ensuring that physical health assessment, treatment and care planning are undertaken in a timely manner. To provide support to the Physical Health Matron by providing reviews and evaluations at their request.

To provide training and learning sessions for the existing workforce and advise where further training and support is required. To be able to provide basic physical health assessments including phlebotomy, vaccinations, ECGs and wound care.

  • First level registered nurse
  • RGN Bachelor of science/ Art or equivalent experience

Desirable

  • Post graduate study in long term condition management

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in delivery the national vaccination programme
  • Working in clinical setting
  • Caring, empathetic manner and the ability to treat each patient as an individual
  • Experience in managing own time/workload and prioritise care appropriately so that appointment schedules are maintained
  • Use of electronic patient records systems
  • Using Microsoft portfolio of software including Word, Power Point and Publisher

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a Mental Health setting
  • Phlebotomy

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge and experience of managing long term conditions.
  • An understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for strict confidentiality
  • A commitment to ensure all Health and Safety requirements and Infection Control measures are met and to report any problems to the clinical matron.
  • A good working knowledge of safeguarding vulnerable adults.
  • Broad knowledge of clinical governance
  • Understanding of infection prevention and control measures
  • Knowledge of public health related to mental health patients issues in the local area.

  • Competency in complex wound management, Doppler and the use of Compression
  • Routine vaccinations for adults patients without complete records, under PGDs chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician
