Job summary

Are you an SLT with relevant experience and an interest in working within Mental Health Services for Older People? We are looking for enthusiastic SLTs to come and work within our developing team.

We currently have opportunities within community services for people living with dementia and on both mental health and dementia wards.

The inpatient services are based at Millbrook Mental Health Unit (Mansfield) and Highbury Hospital (Bulwell).

The community teams are based at Lings Bar Hospital (West Bridgford), Highbury Hospital and Byron House (Newark).

We can offer full or part-time opportunities and you could work covering one or a mix of teams. We welcome applicants with transferrable skills who are keen to develop their experience within the mental health and dementia specialisms. We would welcome a conversation about which opportunity would be the best fit for you.

You will be regularly supported by our (part-time) Clinical Specialist Speech and Language Therapists, who have national reputations in the field of dementia care and will encourage your development through in-service and external CPD opportunities.

Main duties of the job

The role requires clinical and professional expertise to deliver a specialist, interdisciplinary, efficient and effective Speech and Language Therapy Service including to people living with a language led dementia.

You would be responsible for specialist SLT assessment and diagnosis, intervention and management, advice and education as appropriate.

You will have opportunity to discuss service needs and trends with your senior colleagues and will support your team with professional advice and training as required

  • Recognised SLT Degree/diploma
  • NQT competencies completed
  • RCLST Registered
  • HCPC Registered

Training

Essential

  • Portfolio of relevant post qualification CPD
  • Post basic dysphagia training or completed competencies

Desirable

  • Post basic dysphagia training or completed competencies

Experience

Essential

  • Working experience of assessing and managing caseloads within clinical area
  • Experience of effective multi-disciplinary/agency working
  • Experience of enabling different staff groups to understand issues around communication and/or dysphagia
  • Experience of supporting students and other staff

Desirable

  • Experience of delivering a variety of approaches to SLT service delivery
  • Experience in developing evaluation / audit tools and resources as part of SLT team
  • Experience of delivering Learning and development opportunities for others
