Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work with a dedicated and professional team of nurses and nursing assistants in Oakfield Special school for children from 3-19years.

Main duties of the job

You will be trained to care for complex children who require medical support and intervention to help them access school and education. You will work 1:1 with a child each day during term time enabling the child or young person to access their education. All training will be provided and will be specific to the child you are caring for.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Minimum GCSE grades A - D in Maths and English or equivalent
  • NVQ level 3 in Health or Education related subject or equivalent

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with children and young people with disabilities
  • Experience of undertaking medical procedures. E.g., gastrostomy feeding

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a health care/education setting

Knowledge, Skills and Aptitudes

Essential

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • IT skills
  • An understanding of child health and development
  • Good time management skills
  • Organisational skills
  • Flexibility to be a team member yet self-reliant and self-motivating

Desirable

  • Experience of medical procedures eg gastrostomy feeding

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to do floor work and move and handle children as needed

  • Evidence of moving and handling training
