Job summary

The Mental Health Support Team (MHST) is an evolving service available to certain schools in the Nottinghamshire locality. We have been a trailblazer site for the project and have been the first site nationally to have an operational team in 2019.

There are full time Trainee Educational Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs) in the team. These vacancies are available within the existing team for the Mansfield and Ashfield and the Bassetlaw localities.

Successfulcandidateswill be required to attend a virtual 12 month training programme with theUniversity of Exeter.

We are an early intervention well-being service aimed at providing support for children young people and families around low-level emotional well-being needs, such as anxiety, low mood, managing emotions, and sleep.

We link in directly with Nottinghamshire CAMHS teams and provide 'in school' sessions to promote a positive mental health. The schools included in this project will have a designated Mental Health Lead, who can refer directly into the MHST service.

We work closely alongside these staff so we support them in creating a whole school approach to mental health. This Trainee EMHP role requires successful candidates to attend University and complete aPost Graduate Diploma qualification of a CYP IAPT approved training in Evidence-Based Psychological Treatment for Children and Young People (C&Y IAPT).

Main duties of the job

The Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service offers treatment for children and young people up to the age of 18 for mild to severe emotional and mental health needs. There are four multi-disciplinary Community Teams supporting Nottinghamshire along with specialist teams such as Eating Disorders, Head 2 Head, CAMHS Crisis and Home Treatment, CAMHS Neuro, Children Looked After & Adoption, Primary Mental Health, Perinatal services and East Midlands Community Forensic Child & Adolescent Health Service (FCAMHS).

Our core purpose is to work with children and young people and their families/carers, who may be experiencing emotional and mental health disorders that have a significant impact on the child's development and cause distress to the child and/or their carers. We aim to improve the mental health of all children and young people with the provision of a timely, integrated, high quality, effective, multi-disciplinary county wide service.

  • The post-holder will work a trainee as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering, high-quality; brief outcome focused evidence-based interventions for children and young people experiencing mild tomoderate mental health difficulties including anxiety, low mood and behavioural difficulties within a school setting.
  • The post-holder will work with children, Young People and Families with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary.
  • The post holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering, under supervision, high quality, outcome-informed/ focused, evidence-based interventions for children and young people experiencing, mild to moderate anxiety, low mood and behavioural difficulties.
  • The post-holder will also oversee elements of participation. This includes engaging all service users in various ways to gain feedback, participate in shaping services and running appropriate participationgroups within the services.
  • The post holder will be required to be creative, flexible, adaptable, professional and motivated in all aspects of their role, both in clinical delivery and within the development of the service provision.Where appropriate to provide support for the work of other members of the multidisciplinary team and signpost children, young people and families to appropriate support. There is also a role for the potholder to promote the whole school approach to mental health and support teaching staff wellbeing.
  • To work as part of the wider multi-disciplinary Community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Team to enhance the mental and emotional well-being of children and young people within Nottinghamshire.
