Job summary

The Intellectual and Developmental Disability (IDD) Directorate are pleased to advertise an exciting and rare opportunity to lead the IDD Clinical Psychology service and to influence and direct high quality care across their various pathways for the Directorate. The Consultant Clinical Psychologist will work across the Directorate with the support of a dedicated psychology team, to deliver clinical leadership and supervision to the clinical and forensic psychologists working with the patient group. The Directorate has clinical psychology embedded into in-patient, community, intensive support and day services, offering psychologically based group and individual interventions.

The role is positioned in such a way to ensure that IDD is profiled within the Integrated Care System and that research and evidence based interventions are shared across services. The Trust has an Associate Director of Psychological Professions and the role will involve close liaison with that post-holder and other professional leads. The directorate also has strong links with the local professional training and academic communities.

We have an emphasis on career development and progression. We want to help our staff reach their full potential and are committed to providing the support, skills and development needed to succeed.

Main duties of the job

The Consultant Clinical Psychologist provides expert strategic, clinical and professional leadership and consultancy, across multi-disciplinary pathways as well as organisational, professional and agency boundaries. They take the lead role in influencing, developing and shaping clinical policies and services, based on evidence. You will initiate, facilitate, and collaborate in research, audit, evaluation and Quality Improvement projects through the Directorate Clinical Effectiveness forum.

The IDD service provides specialist care for those aged over 18 with intellectual disabilities and neurodevelopmental conditions, focusing on those whose needs cannot be met by a mainstream provision. We work to improve the mental and physical wellbeing of our service users, providing treatment and support on less complex needs, those with the most severe and complex needs and everything in between.

Within the IDD Service, we take a professional approach to meeting individual needs and ensuring that people receive the support they require to live a fulfilling life within their local community. Assessment and treatment is delivered by our Community Learning Disability Teams across Nottinghamshire. Where there has been an increase in risk or deterioration and the mental health issues cannot be managed in the community, then assessment and treatment is delivered in our ICATT team or inpatient units.

We have a huge variety of opportunities in our expansive Trust, providing mental health inpatient and community services, community health services, forensic mental health services and secure prison healthcare across the East Midlands.
