Intellectual Developmental Disability Services are looking for a Ward Manager to join our team. You will be a crucial member of our multi-disciplinary team, ensuring the effective management of the ward and the services delivered at the Orion Unit in conjunction with the leadership team. Main duties of the job

As an MH/Learning Disability Registered Nurse, or qualified HCPC Allied Health Professional you will have extensive experience gained in a similar environment and recent experience in a senior position. Your ability to solve problems and think both literally and laterally will enable you to coach and support others in your team. We encourage sharing of best practice across our site to develop your skills and take advantage of our excellent clinical leadership knowledge.

The Orion Unit is an 8 bedded inpatient service for adults with an Intellectual Disability and complex mental health difficulties and / or challenging behaviours that cannot be met within the community. Patients are cared for in the least restrictive setting possible, but within a service which is robust and structured enough to meet their ongoing needs and risks.

The service ensures people lead meaningful lives, where they have choice and control, accessing mainstream services and facilities, engaging in work and training, leisure opportunities, hobbies and areas of personal interest. The Orion Unit encourages people to be as independent as possible with the long-term aim of people moving onto a more independent living setting.

We offer specialist support tailored to the individual drawing flexibly on a broad range of models and interventions working with a highly skilled MDT. The Unit helps and cares for people in times of crisis, difficulty and distress; effectively collaborating between professionals, the person, their family and networks that support them. Working alongside community colleagues and receiving services.

Qualifications - Academic / Craft / Professional

Essential

  • Professional Qualification (Mental Health/Learning Disabilities) plus further specialist knowledge/post registration experience to diploma level or equivalent underpinned by theory within physical healthcare or other formal training.
  • Maintain current registration with the NMC and adheres to the NMC Code.
  • Demonstrates continuing Professional Development within their specialism.
  • Management and Leadership qualification and experience.

Training

Essential

  • Willingness to undertake new clinical practices, education and training that will enhance service delivery.

Experience

  • Demonstrate satisfactory clinical expertise for the banding.

Desirable

  • The ability to deal with and resolve conflict.
