Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time experienced Registered Mental Health Practitioner to join our Integrated Mental Health Team at HMP Leicester.

The Offender Health Team truly believes it can make a difference to the lives of offenders by offering consistent, equitable, high quality and timely primary care, mental health and substance misuse services that are at least equivalent to contemporary health services delivered outside of Prison.

The role of the Mental Health Practitioner is to work within a stepped care pathway, conducting assessments, responding to crisis situations, conducting brief therapeutic interventions and /or case management for prisoners with a wide range of mental health issues, including common mental health problems, Psychotic disorders, Personality Disorder and Self-harm Behaviours.

Main duties of the job

To take a lead role in providing the successful and effective delivery of mental health services within the offender health directorate. To work as a mental health nurse within a multi-disciplinary team in a prison setting, leading in provision of care to patients with a wide range of mental health issues, including complex and enduring mental health problems, some being managed under the Care Programme Approach (CPA).

To lead in the coordination of treatment of mental health from the point of entry into the prison system to transfer of care to on-going providers, so the mental health of prisoners is improved.

To provide leadership to junior staff by maintaining professional standards, ensuring adherence to all relevant policies and procedures to ensure the delivery of high-quality care

The Offender Health Directorate is one of the largest and most successful providers of prison healthcare in the UK. The Directorate provide physical, mental health and substance misuse healthcare services in prisons across the East Midlands, Lincolnshire & Leicestershire.

The Directorate provides healthcare to 9 prisons and a short term holding facility. You must be a Registered Mental Health Nurse with proven post registration experience in delivery all a wide range of Mental Health care and have knowledge of CPA and Clinical Risk Assessment.

Applicants will be participating in multi-disciplinary reviews, risk assessment. This is a unique opportunity to develop wide ranging knowledge and experience and develop professional autonomy.

Applicants would be expected to engage in individual and group supervision and reflective practice.
