Applications are invited for Consultant Psychiatrist in Old Age Psychiatry, working in the Memory Assessment Service. 2 posts are available - a full-time post based at Lings Bar Hospital, and a part-time post based at Millbrook Mental Health Unit.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will assume responsibility for diagnosis and treatment of dementia and related memory problems in older people covering populations within County-South (Broxtowe and Rushcliffe), Nottingham City and Gedling and Hucknall. The hub is at Lings Bar Hospital in Gamston.
Each team is nurse-led, working closely with medical staff and other healthcare professionals. Whilst it is expected that most patients will attend the clinics or video consultations for assessment and diagnosis some home based appointments will be offered where appropriate. Patients and carers who are unable to access the clinic/video consultation will be offered a home assessment or referral to the Community Mental Health Team.It is anticipated that the Consultant will work with the MAS MDT on a consultative basis providing clinical leadership and supervision to a team of advanced level practitioners. They will provide expert clinical consultation where needed and develop liaison pathways with secondary care acute services to develop novel approaches to treatment. The MAS Consultant will provide direct care for a small number of complex patients and be available for face to face/telephone/email/Microsoft Teams advice to the wider team.
Mental Health Services for Older People Nottinghamshire Healthcare is a major provider of specialist mental health services for older people in Nottingham City and the wider county. The service caters to the needs of all people suffering from dementia, regardless of age and those presenting with severe and enduring mental health illnesses, such as depression. Services are provided in an in-patient and community basis and comprise of the following teams:
There are 90 assessment and treatment beds, the beds are provided at Millbrook Mental Health Unit, Bassetlaw Hospital and Highbury Hospital.
o Intensive Home Treatment Team (IHTT)
o Rapid Response Liaison Psychiatry (RRLP)
o Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT)
o Memory Assessment Services (MAS)
o Working Age Dementia Service (WAD)
o Dementia Outreach Services (Residential and Nursing Homes) (DOS)

Provide medical leadership to MAS Supervision of MAS staff Attendance at team and governance meetings Provision of medical/psychiatric assessments to inform diagnosis and care planning Delivery of appropriate pharmacological interventions Completion of administrative tasks related to clinical responsibilities Liaison with GPs, other Consultants, and other colleagues in CMHTs and in-patient wards Participation in the MHSOP out of hours on call rota Teaching of undergraduate medical students Service development of the MAS model
