Job summary

An opportunity has arisen within the Nottinghamshire Podiatry Service for an Advanced Podiatrist Band 7 - Diabetes to work predominantly within Dundee House, Nottingham City hospital.

Permanent hours are available, up to 37.5 hours per week.

  • To provide clinical leadership for the Podiatry Service, providing specialist support to community podiatrists in relation to patients with diabetic foot complications
  • To take an active role in the multi-disciplinary foot team (MDFT), providing a high standard of clinical care to specialist caseloads including specialist podiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment and education of patients with diabetes
  • To act autonomously, determining appropriate treatment regimes, discharge and onward referral.
  • Liaise with colleagues across all disciplines and levels to ensure seamless delivery between primary and secondary care.
  • To support the Podiatry Service Manager to deliver continuous service improvement in line with local needs and national priorities and ensure where possible practice is evidence-based.
  • To ensure that clinical governance underpins the service provided to patients with diabetes.
  • To support the professional development of all staff employed in the service.
  • To participate in research and clinical audit as agreed with the Podiatry Service Manager.

This role may require travelling to other community sites. As such, the ability to travel between sites is required.

Main duties of the job

As a member of Nottinghamshire Podiatry Services you would have -

  • Annual appraisal and personal development plans.
  • Involvement in team meetings and the opportunity to make valuable contributions to the team meetings, research and clinical audit.
  • You will be provided with peer support, continued professional development and regular supervision.
  • Access to a wide range of learning and development opportunities is available and encouraged.

Applicants must be HCPC registered and hold a degree or equivalent in Podiatry, a certificate for Local anaesthesia, POM-S Sale and Supply Certificate and a post graduate qualification in diabetes and the foot. You should alsohave experience of team working, but be able to work independently.

The ability to meet the travel requirements of the role is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.

Job responsibilities

We are looking for a committed and compassionate individual with extensive clinical knowledge in the management of diabetic patients with foot conditions and some leadership experience, to provide clinical management within our community podiatry services.

Working collaboratively with other Health care professionals, you will be required to cohesively support the Diabetic foot MDT to manage high risk caseload.

Main responsibilities to include -

  • To provide clinical care of acute and chronic wounds in secondary care multi-disciplinary foot clinics, follow up clinics, and to ward / domiciliary patients as required.
  • To act as a professional lead in diabetes for the Podiatry Service.
  • To liaise with and arrange immediate interventions from relevant professionals
  • To act as a mentor to the podiatry team and facilitate specialist clinical observations, rotations and training / teaching.
  • To be actively involved in the provision of foot health education and advice to patients, relatives and carers, and to participate in foot health training where appropriate.
  • To develop and support seamless patient pathways to prevent and manage diabetic foot problems across secondary and primary care.
  • To be actively involved in service improvement, evaluation and re-design.
  • Collaboration with Team Lead, Service Manager, Podiatric Surgery Clinical Lead and other Clinical Leads on a range of projects and activities relating to Quality Improvement and service development.
