Job summary
The Specialty Doctor will be an important member of the hospice team and will provide 1:5 non-resident medical out of hours support to the hospice at the weekend, Friday 5pm evening to Monday 9am. The post is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to increase their Palliative Care expertise and qualifications. It suits individuals currently practising in primary or secondary care.
The post is based at the John Eastwood Hospice, which provides a wide range of Specialist Palliative Care services to Central Nottinghamshire. There are well-established in-patient, Living Well Centre, and outreach services to both primary and secondary care.
Main duties of the job
The Specialty Doctor will provide care of hospice in-patients, when on-call as part of the out of hours non-resident rota - together with GPST, Registrars, Clinical Fellow, and other Specialty Doctors. The role will be required to be always available by telephone when on call and is required to remain within approximately 45 minutes travelling time. It may be required to return to the inpatient unit to see an admission or review patients that have unexpectedly deteriorated.
A visit to the hospice to perform a ward round is required Saturday and Sunday when on-call at the weekend. The rest of the weekend is predominantly telephone support. A visit to the unit on Fridays when on-call over the weekend will help to familiarise with current patients.
About us
John Eastwood Hospice opened in 1991 and has been extended twice. The Hospice is purpose built, providing Specialist Palliative Care services to Mid-Nottinghamshire a population of more than 340,000. The hospice is adjacent to Kings Mill Hospital. The unit was built with charitable donations and is now run by Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

- The duties of the post may be developed, after discussion with the post holder, to ensure maximum experience is provided. The post holder will be supported in developing their own palliative care skills.
