Job summary

We are looking for accredited Counsellors to join our expanding IAPT service and provide a professional, ethical and time limited counselling service from various locations within Nottinghamshire. Our Counsellors play an integral role within our NICE compliant stepped care service. Applicants should have completed the Person Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression (PCE-CfD) training or be willing to attend this training once in post. Clinical supervision will be provided by an accredited supervisor.

Let's Talk Wellbeing in Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust's Improving Access to Psychological Therapy (IAPT) Service offering high quality evidence based psychological therapies for people with common mental health problems across Nottinghamshire.

The underpinning principle of this service is to ensure that the local population can access appropriate, NICE approved talking therapies quickly and easily.

Main duties of the job

You will play a key therapeutic role as part of an Any Qualified provider (Payments by Results) service working at Step 3. They will be expected to meet set activity and performance targets. They will work with people who present with mild to moderate Depression, using NICE Guidance and IAPT recognised interventions and tools alongside a team of other psychological therapists and in a number of community settings which are highly accessible to the local population.

*Due to the situation with COVID-19 we have been working remotely by video consultation or telephone but are working on a restoration and recovery phased return which will include some face to face and some remote working.

A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.

Job responsibilities

General Duties

  • To work from various locations across Nottinghamshire.
  • To provide assessment and ongoing counselling for adult patients who present with mild to moderate mental health concerns that can be addressed by short term counselling.
  • To enable individuals referred with emotional difficulties to cope more effectively, with the aim of preventing deterioration in their well-being.
  • The post holder may be required to provide assessment of clients presenting with multiple and complex issues and make recommendations for referral on where psychological difficulties are more complex and require specialist services.

Specific Duties

CLINICAL

  • Accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service.
  • Assess clients for suitability for treatment within the IAPT service.
  • Make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the departments referral protocols, and refer unsuitable clients on to the relevant service or back to the referral agent as necessary, with due regard for assessment and management of risk.
  • Make professional judgements to ensure the delivery of appropriate counselling interventions to meet the clients needs.
  • Provide an easily accessible, confidential and ethical assessment and counselling service.
  • Enable individuals referred with emotional difficulties to cope more effectively, with the aim of preventing deterioration in their wellbeing.
  • Practice clinically effective counselling within a brief framework and therefore to effectively manage the emotional, intellectual and administrative demands of a high client turnover resulting from a short term counselling service.
  • Ensure risks identified around adult and child safeguarding are reported and followed through as per Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust policy.
  • Adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the number of client contacts offered, and clinical sessions carried out per week in order to minimize waiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient.
  • Complete all requirements relating to data collection within the service within 24 hours of seeing the patient, including the use of routine outcome measures.
  • Keep coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols.
  • Work closely with other members of the team ensuring appropriate step along, step-up and step-down arrangements are in place to maintain a stepped care approach.
  • Assess and integrate issues surrounding work and employment into the overall therapy process
  • Carry out clinical audits of service performance, including patient surveys and evaluations, and help to collate and disseminate the results for feedback.

PROFESSIONAL

  • To maintain BACP or equivalent accreditation and to work within the professional framework for ethical practice.
  • To maintain ongoing, professional CPD in line with BACP or equivalent requirements.
  • Ensure the maintenance of standards of practice according to the employer and any regulating, professional and accrediting bodies (e.g. BACP, UKCP) and keep up to date on new recommendations/guidelines set by the department of health (e.g. NHS plan, National Service Framework, National Institute for Clinical Excellence).
  • Attend clinical supervision and case management supervision on a regular basis in line with service and IAPT requirements.
  • To work with clients independently within national, organisational and local policies and procedures.
  • To implement and contribute to ongoing review and development of counselling procedures and referral guidelines.
  • To contribute to ongoing review and development of service delivery and working practices.
  • Ensure that client confidentiality is protected at all times.
  • Be aware of, and keep up to date with advances in counselling.
  • Ensure clear professional objectives are identified, discussed and reviewed with senior therapists on a regular basis as part of continuing professional development.
  • Attend management supervision on a regular basis as agreed with the Service Manager.
  • Participate in individual performance review and respond to agreed objectives.
  • Keep up to date all records in relation to C.P.D. and ensure personal development plan maintains up to date specialist knowledge of latest theoretical and service delivery models/developments.

Training Programme and Supervision
