Job summary

We are delighted to offer two Clinical Teaching Fellow (CTF) posts in Critical Care Medicine (ST1-2) at Musgrove Park Hospital, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. These posts combine 50% clinical work within our Anaesthetics/Critical Care Unit and 50% teaching for either the University of Bristol or Peninsula Medical School.

The posts are ideal for doctors wishing to develop clinical skills in Critical Care Medicine while gainingsignificant experiencein undergraduate medical education.

CTFs will alsohave the opportunity tocomplete a funded Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education, alongside access to simulationbased educator training within our purposebuilt Musgrove Park Academy.

Musgrove Park Hospital's brand new 22bed Critical Care Unit opens in May 2026, supported by twice daily consultant ward rounds, an active multidisciplinary team, and a 24/7 Critical Care Outreach service.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Duties (50%)

Provide daytoday clinical care for patients within the Critical Care Unit.

Participate in scheduled resident oncall work (infrequent but essential).

Attend morning/evening consultant ward rounds and MDT meetings.

Undertake routine clinical administration.

Engage in clinical audit and quality improvement work relating to Critical Care and anaesthetic services.

Attend airway experience days in theatre (note: **no formal anaesthetic training is included)

Teaching Duties (50%)

(Responsibilities vary depending on university placement)

University of Bristol

Facilitate CaseBased Learning, anatomy teaching, clinicalskillsand simulation sessions.

Provide bedside teaching and smallgroup tutorials.

Develop materials, teachingmethodsand learning resources.

Identifyand support student learning needs.

Assess students through OSCEs, long cases, miniCEX, CBDs and DOPS.

Provide pastoral support and helpidentify"atrisk"students.

Support and mentor students throughout placements.

Contribute to the development ofstudent choiceprojects

Peninsula Medical School (University of Plymouth)

Provide weekly orientation for Year 4 students on Critical Care rotation.

Deliver simulationbased teaching for Year 5.

Provide tutorials to all year groups.

Support clinical skills teaching within the academy.

Participate in assessments including skills assessments and CPSA.

Act as a mentor for students
