Urgent Care GP in the Integrated Front Door

Job summary

We are delighted to invite applications for an Urgent Care GP to join our innovative Integrated Front Door service at Musgrove Park Hospital. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a highly collaborative multidisciplinary team delivering fast, safe and patientcentred urgent care in one of the most forwardthinking Emergency Departments in the region.

As an Urgent Care GP, you will assess, diagnose and manage patients streamed to the Urgent Care area, with the opportunity to see appropriate cases from the Emergency Care stream through our integrated model.

This role offers variety, autonomy, and the chance to shape how modern urgent care is delivered.

About the Department

Musgrove Park Hospital's Emergency Department is a friendly, high-performing unit with a strong team ethos, serving a semirural population of 330,000 and managing 65,000 attendances annually.

Our Integrated Front Door, redeveloped in 2017, brings together:

  • Urgent Care GPs
  • Emergency Nurse Practitioners
  • Emergency Care Practitioners
  • Physiotherapists
  • Emergency Physicians

This model ensures patients are seen by the right clinician, at the right time, in the right setting.

You will work alongside a broad team including Consultants, ACPs, Specialty Doctors, Trainees (ACCS, GPVTS, Foundation) and more

Main duties of the job

Provide highquality assessment, diagnosis and management of patients in the Urgent Care area.

Support the integrated model by reviewing appropriate patients from the Emergency Care stream.

Participate in a flexible rota covering shifts between 08:00--23:00, 7 days a week.

Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary colleagues.

Contribute to clinical audit, governance and quality improvement activities.

Participate in CPD sessions and maintain uptodate clinical practice.

Support research, service development and education where relevant.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC registration
  • On the UK Specialist Register for General Practice or within 6 months of being so
  • Recognised medical degree
  • Completion of GP training
  • NHS experience
  • Ability to manage adult and paediatric undifferentiated illness presentations
  • Strong communication skills

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification
  • Member of the RCGP
  • Experience in urgent care, OOH, ED or similar settings
  • Audit participation and quality improvement experience
