Job summary
This is primarily a clinical post with some management responsibilities, supporting the delivery of Minor Oral Surgery (MOS) services for adults within the Primary Care Dental Service in Somerset. The post holder will be responsible for providing clinical MOS procedures across the county, ensuring high standards of patient care and safety. In addition to clinical duties, the role includes monitoring performance activity to support service quality and efficiency. The successful candidate will also contribute to the planning, development, and day-to-day operational management of the MOS service, working collaboratively with colleagues and potentially travelling between clinic sites to meet patient needs.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for delivering high-quality Minor Oral Surgery (MOS) under local anaesthesia, in line with NICE guidelines and local protocols, with flexibility to work across different clinical sites depending on patient and service needs.
A competent and experienced clinical practitioner, with the ability to work without supervision, they will be collaborating with healthcare colleagues in both primary and secondary care, and supporting the service through mentoring and clinical advice. Duties include triaging referrals, maintaining accurate clinical records using the Trust's dental IT system, and ensuring timely submission of activity claims to the NHS Business Services Authority. The role also involves maintaining professional registration and CPD in accordance with GDC requirements, obtaining informed consent in line with the Mental Capacity Act 2005, and working in partnership with other disciplines and agencies to deliver patient-centred care.
Ongoing training and development will be supported to uphold clinical standards and service quality.
