Immunisation Nurse

The closing date is 08 July 2025

Job summary

Are you a passionate and registered healthcare professional looking to make a tangible difference to children's health and wellbeing? The Somerset School Aged Immunisation Team (SAINTs) is seeking an Immunisation Nurse to join our dynamic and supportive team. Working across Somerset, you will play a key role in the delivery of vital vaccination programmes to school-aged children, ensuring safe administration in line with the national immunisation schedule.

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated nurse who enjoys working in a fast-paced, community-based role. You will support immunisation uptake by removing barriers to access and promoting health across schools and community settings.

The role will be offered on an annualised hours contract, with the majority of hours worked during term time. However, the postholder will also be expected to provide cover during school holidays, as well as occasional evening and weekend clinics.

Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 16:00. While the role is primarily based on one side of the county, flexibility to support clinics across the county, as required by service needs, is essential.

If you're enthusiastic about public health, community work, and child wellbeing, we'd love to hear from you.

Apply now to join a team making a difference to young lives across Somerset.

Main duties of the job

  • Plan, prepare, and administer vaccinations (including Influenza, HPV, Meningococcal ACWY, DTP booster, and MMR catch-ups) to children in school and community clinics.

  • Act as a single point of contact for immunisation queries, triaging and obtaining verbal consent where written consent is not provided.

  • Provide clinical advice and support to parents, carers, schools, and colleagues.

  • Promote immunisation uptake through community engagement, literature, and school-based awareness sessions.

  • Support students and less experienced staff through preceptorship and mentorship.

  • Maintain accurate vaccination records via online systems and ensure compliance with infection control, cold chain, and equipment protocols.

  • Participate in safeguarding practices and work closely with public health, education, and social care partners.
