Job summary
We are offering a clinical teaching post in paediatrics. This is an exciting opportunity for a middle grade paediatric doctor who wishes to develop their teaching skills. They will have responsibilities for teaching medical students as well as supporting the postgraduate teaching programme. Study leave and funding will be available to support a postgraduate teaching qualification (for example a Post-graduate certificate in Medical Education). In addition, there will be an opportunity to gain further experience in a clinical area of their interest.
For applicants who are post CCT, opportunities to work at consultant level running ward rounds and gaining management experience would also be possible. This post is available for up to 12 months and involves acute oncall working in general paediatrics and neonates at middle grade level. The post is based at Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. The postholder would work at ST3+ level with 50% hours clinical and 50% teaching.
The department has medical students from Bristol University and the Peninsula Medical School. This post mainly involves teaching Bristol students, but may also involve some support of Peninsula Student teaching. The successful candidate will contribute to the postgraduate teaching programme for Doctors In Training. In addition, there is daily bedside teaching on the neonatal and general paediatric ward rounds.
Main duties of the job
Teaching Bristol University Medical Students
General Clinical Teaching Fellow duties such as supporting OSCES and running clinical skills sessions
Supporting teaching of Peninsula medical students
Supporting postgraduate teaching within the department
Clinical work to support area of special interest/ support ward team.
Oncall 1:7 duties covering middle grade rota for general paediatrics and neonates.
