This is a fantastic opportunity to join our Level 3 Pharmacy Technician (integrated) apprenticeship where you will gain hands on experience across a range of pharmacy service areas. Training will be completed through a combination of traditional academic learning where you will be supported by a tutor to complete the theoretical and academic assessments and work-based learning where you will gain practical experience and develop professional skills and behaviours.
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will gain a formal professional qualification and be eligible to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a Pharmacy Technician.

Please note there will be an invigilated assessment for Math, English and Science as part of the enrolment process.
Main duties of the job
This post is based at either Musgrove Park Hospital or Yeovil District Hospital with allocated protected study time (in line with apprenticeship requirements). Throughout your training you will rotate into different areas of the department including Dispensary, Ward Distribution and Aseptic Services (MPH only) and spend time on the wards within the Medicines Optimisation rotation. Duties within these areas include:
- Participating in the dispensing of medications against prescriptions for in-patients and out-patients
- Stock management - ward top ups, expiry date checking, supply of medication to wards and departments
- Assessing patient's own drugs (PODs) to review suitability for use in a hospital setting
- Establishing a medication history (compiling an accurate list of all the medicines that a patient is taking prior to admission) and completing a medicines reconciliation (comparing the medication history with currently prescribed medications and identifying and documenting any discrepancies, changes, deletions or additions)
- Performing a final accuracy check of dispensed medication
- Manufacturing aseptically prepared products in the pharmacy aseptic unit (MPH only)
