Job summary
Somerset NHS Foundation Trust has an opportunity to appoint a Specialty Doctor in Palliative Medicine in the community setting.
This is a permanent, part time post working up to 7 PAs per week flexibly up to 3 days per week between Monday and Friday. Job shares will also be considered
The role is to provide clinical care for patients in the community setting, providing an ideal opportunity for any clinician to develop their skills and knowledge in this field.
Main duties of the job
There is an expectation that the post holder will specifically contribute to the educational program for medical students from Bristol and Peninsula Medical Schools, post graduate doctors in training and nursing and allied health professionals. You will also provide holistic medical support and continuity of care for patients with the clinical nurse specialist team community settings, under the supervision of our consultants.
The senior medical team provide a clinical service for supportive and palliative care across the two acute trust sites, the community and St Margaret's hospice in-patient unit alongside other healthcare professionals in palliative care employed by both Somerset NHS Foundation Trust and St Margaret's Hospice. We have an integrated approach to palliative and end of life care across the county and have an active end of life steering group which aims to support the improvement of palliative care across the county. Working with the palliative care teams we have an end of life education team who deliver education and support across the county and have been key in developing the Somerset End of Life Care website to support the delivery of education, care and support for healthcare professionals, patients and their carers across the county: Somerset - End Of Life Care & Bereavement Support.
