Job summary
Each Chef plays an important role in our catering services team. From ensuring the safety of the food we serve to preparing a range of hot and cold foods, snacks, sandwiches and drinks, it's all key work and safety critical.
Main duties of the job
To provide and maintain a safe, clean and tidy environment in accordance with work schedules and instructions, using the appropriate equipment provided;
To prepare items ready for cooking or cold processing (e.g. salads, desserts etc.);
To be responsible for the cooking process and ensure food items are correctly cooked to achieve relevant temperature, quality and taste standards;
To take, accept and process non-routine food or beverage orders (e.g for patients on special diets etc) liaising with relevant nursing or clinical staff in such matters as necessary;
To complete relevant paperwork and comply with the Hazard Awareness Critical Control Point (HACCP) safe food system;
To be responsible for accepting food and other catering stock deliveries, recording relevant delivery information (time, date, temperature, quantity, condition etc.);
To contribute to the practical and administrative development of patient and retail menus;
To be responsible for the Catering Assistant's team when acting as the duty chef;
Ensure all catering equipment and manual handling aids provided are used appropriately;
Ensure that all equipment in use is safe to use and report any equipment failures immediately to the Lead Chef or a relevant Manager.
Use relevant software systems associated with this post;
Participate in training and assist others with training and development needs
