Job summary

To be the responsible senior management lead for Oncology & Haematology departments, ensuring that the operational and strategic demands on the departments are met. Within this framework the post holder is accountable and responsible for the delivery of clinical services working in partnership with the Clinical Service Leads (CSLs) where they will actively promote a culture of care which reflects Somerset Foundation NHS Trust values and leadership behaviours.

The post holder will be accountable for the delivery of the management of clinical and non-clinical performance, governance, quality, financial accountability, and human and physical resources. They will also take a proactive role in continuous service development to meet financial and productivity targets.

This role will need to be able to travel to fully support the service across the county.

This post will also need to participate in the Trust's out of hours on call rota.

Main duties of the job

To be the responsible senior management lead for multiple specialties within the Oncology & Haematology departments, to actively promote a culture of care which reflects Somerset Foundation NHS Trust values and leadership behaviours.

Accountable for the delivery of the management of the specific specialties within the Oncology & Haematology, including clinical and non-clinical performance, governance, quality, financial accountability, and human and physical resources.

Ensure that the operational and strategic demands on services within the departments are met. Within this framework the post holder is accountable and responsible for the delivery of clinical services working in partnership with the Clinical Service Leads (CSLs).

Monitoring, reporting on and responding to resource implications within multiple specialties of changing capacity and demand in order to deliver support and care to patients in a timely way.

Meet financial targets for quality, volume and cost and to take a proactive role in continuous service development.

To be the delegated budget holder for pay and non-pay resources across all budgets across Oncology & Haematology.

  • Educated to degree level or extensive equivalent level of experience of operational management
  • Evidence of continuing professional development in operational management

Desirable

  • Post Graduate management qualification
  • Project management qualification (e.g. Prince 2)

Experience

  • Significant management experience at Band 7 level or equivalent, in a complex organisation
  • Experience of producing information, monitoring performance and identifying opportunity for service improvement
  • Experience of managing key National targets to include all Cancer Targets
  • Experience & knowledge of business planning techniques and managing business processes
  • Experience of monitoring data & information on performance and highlighting variances
  • Project management experience
  • Experience of developing and advising other staff at a more senior level than the post holder
