Job summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experience Specialty Doctor in Gastroenterology to join our team at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust. We have a strong reputation for excellent clinical care and a growing research portfolio.
You will be an integral part of our gastroenterology team, providing high quality care to patients across Somerset. The role involves a mix of clinical, endoscopic, and administrative responsibilities, with opportunities for professional development and research involvement.
Proposed interview date is 30th April 2025, face to face interviews (date subject to change).
Main duties of the job
Clinical Duties:
- Conduct 2 independent outpatient clinics per week at either Musgrove Park Hospital, Wellington Community Hospital or Bridgwater Hospital
- Perform 2 endoscopy lists per week, including upper and lower GI endoscopy and therapeutic procedures.
- Review inpatient referrals from other specialties (1 session per week)
- Triage GP referrals (1 session per week)
- Participate in the out-of-hours GI bleed rota (likely on a 1 in 7 basis)
- Work on the gastroenterology ward with consultant supervision on a rotational basis (elective activity will be reduced appropriately for these weeks)
Administrative and Professional Development:
- 1.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) sessions for continuous professional development, audit, and research.
- 2 administrative sessions for patient follow-up, result review, and correspondence.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Contribute to departmental audits and quality improvement initiatives.
- Participate in teaching and training of junior doctors and medical students
- Engage in research activities within the gastroenterology department
