Job summary
We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic consultant to join a collaborative and innovative team dedicated to delivering high-quality diabetes and endocrine care to the Somerset population. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead and develop services in line with their interests and expertise. This position offers 6 PAs and is based at Yeovil Hospital, alongside other established Consultant posts. The ideal candidate will be prepared to embrace new challenges to expand the service and work collaboratively with a diverse team. Our management team is committed to service development, with regular monthly meetings ensuring strong collaboration between management and consultant colleagues.
Main duties of the job
Outpatient work - The new consultant will provide outpatient clinics, provide cover for the podiatry clinics and contribute to the support for the endocrine nurse running dynamic endocrine tests
Inpatient work - The new consultant will take part of the medical on call rota (1 in 14 weekdays and weekends, with the option to split weekends) The new consultant will support the other Diabetes and Endocrine Consultants in seeing diabetes and endocrine ward referrals and take a lead role supporting the diabetes inpatient specialist nurses and podiatrist.
To work with the multidisciplinary team to support the development of in house, county wide and community diabetes
To provide cover for colleagues in their To deal with emergencies as the occasion demands.

Essential
- MBBS and MRCP or equivalent
- Full GMC registration and hold a license to practice at time of applying.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview date) or CESR(evidence that GMC is processing specialist registration prior to interview)
Desirable
- An appropriate higher degree or qualification (MD, phD or equivalent)
Experience
Essential
- Depth and breadth of clinical experience in Diabetes and Endocrinology
- Depth and breadth of clinical experience in General Medicine and Acute Medicine
- Experience in a special interest that will complement those existing in the department
- Relevant experience of working in the UK NHS
Desirable
- Experience at locum consultant level
