Assistant Psychologist - Colleague Support Service

Job summary

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a compassionate Assistant Psychologist to be a vital part of our dynamic and friendly Colleague Support Team!

As an Assistant Psychologist, you'll provide mental health and wellbeing interventions to colleagues experiencing mental health or emotional distress within an established colleague support and wellbeing service.

You'll provide a range of prevention strategies and psychological interventions to colleagues including the provision of clinical assessment, formulation, intervention and evaluation (using quality improvement methodology and research methods).

Ideally you'll have experience of engaging with individuals with emotional distress or mental health difficulties, with a working knowledge of counselling techniques and psychological first aid. You will be resilient, reflective and motivated to work psychologically with colleagues.

Main duties of the job

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust comprises approximately 13,000 colleagues working across acute, community and mental health services. We are highly committed to embedding a culture of compassion for colleagues via application of our 'tiered model' of psychological and emotional wellbeing drawn from national models and the evidence-base.

You'll be delivering psychological interventions to both individuals and teams, conducting research and quality improvement projects, delivering teaching and training, and collecting, and analysing data. The interventions delivered are a mix of telephone, virtual, face to face.

You will need at least a 2:1 degree in psychology, an understanding of the needs and difficulties of colleagues with emotional difficulties and/or mental health problems, and experience of working with adults. Tailored induction and training will be provided to enable you to work effectively with this client group.
