Job summary
We are seeking a Specialty Doctor in Ophthalmology to join our Ophthalmology department at our Yeovil Hospital site location.
The successful candidate will be responsible to, and work under the supervision of the Consultant Ophthalmologists.
The ideal candidate should have a good grounding in general ophthalmology and possibly proficient in cataract surgery as well.
The post will provide an opportunity to develop a sub-specialty interest in medical retina, glaucoma or Eye casualty but candidates with training in other complimentary sub-specialties will be considered as well.
There will be scope to carry out ophthalmic surgery depending on the individual's capability. They will be expected to actively participate in all audit and quality improvement projects within the department.
Main duties of the job
- To work as part of the Ophthalmology Department Team to provide a high-quality ophthalmology service that aims to provide excellent patient care.
- To provide outstanding care to patients.
- To participate in weekly multidisciplinary team meetings.
- To participate in the teaching of Foundation and Junior Doctors as well as to Medical Students.
- Maintain our excellent 18-week performance (Locally set at 15 weeks).
- To maintain a good working relationship with existing staff members in the hospital.
- To attend other hospitals within the Trust if so requested by the supervising Consultant.
- To undertake additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
- To deliver services within tariff without jeopardizing service quality.
- To increase and maintain market share within the local community.

Qualifications
Essential
- Primary Medical Degree
- FRCOphth or equivalent
- Full active GMC and a licence to practice at time of applying for the role.
Desirable
- Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development, a willingness to undertake relevant courses.
Experience
Essential
- Minimum of 4 years' experience post graduate training.
- Minimum 2 years exposure to Ophthalmology in a specialist training programme or equivalent.
- Experience of working in the UK or equivalent health care system other than a clinical attachment.
Desirable
- Relevant sub-specialty experience
