Job summary
Applications are invited for a Speciality Doctor post in Urology for 12 months. The post is ideally suited to an individual who will have completed CT training or equivalent and wishes to enhance their urological experience and portfolio. There are urology dedicated GA operating lists each week currently, and the post-holder will have access to several lists per week, as well as access to outpatients and diagnostic lists. The department is active in audit, teaching and QI projects and there will be plenty of opportunities for portfolio enhancement.
The post-holder will be based at the Yeovil District Hospital but will be expected to work flexibly across Somerset as needed. The post-holder will be encouraged to attend regional ST study days, meetings and study courses appropriate to development, and will have a named Educational Supervisor.
There will be a 1:5 weekend on-call commitment at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton.
Main duties of the job
- To support the urology consultants on their dedicated wards with their ward patients plus helping in their outpatient clinics, working towards undertaking clinics independently including flexible cystoscopy clinics and theatre lists.
- To provide input to the surgical admissions to enable the efficient assessment and initial management of emergencies.
- To deal with inpatient referrals.
- There will be a 1:5 on-call commitment at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton at the weekends.
- You will be expected to independently manage the department overnight, ensuring the delivery of safe and effective patient care.
- This role requires you to make confident, evidence-based clinical decisions, prioritise tasks in a high-pressure environment, and lead the multidisciplinary team effectively. You will have access to support and guidance from the on-call consultant, who will be available remotely for advice or to attend in person when necessary.
- To supervise and support the F1 and Clinical Nurse Practitioner in urology, making decisions in emergency and ward settings.
- To participate in the teaching of Foundation and Junior Doctors at the bedside as well as to Medical Students.
- To be involved in audit and QI and undergraduate/post graduate education.
