Job summary
To provide effective clinical and managerial leadership of the unit which empowers staff to deliver patient centred evidence-based nursing care. To work within a team, to supervise, nurture, counsel and develop the knowledge and skills of staff.
Ensure a multi-disciplinary approach to patient centred care delivery, which builds on the philosophy of greater involvement of patients and their relatives / carers.
Main duties of the job
Take overall responsibility when leading a shift for ensuring that the compliment of staff is appropriate to deliver the service from a skill mix and skills perspective.
Utilise their professional skills and knowledge obtained through learning and experience.
To continually assess, plan, implement and evaluate the clinical care of patients without supervision.
Work closely with the multidisciplinary team providing them with professional and clinical nursing expertise.
Able to give patients a balanced view of risks and benefits of symptom management.
Be competent in the use of equipment used to monitor patients, i.e. 12 lead ECG, non-invasive blood pressure monitoring, infusion pumps and intravenous drug therapy.
To provide managerial and professional responsibilities through the professional team structure/framework. To be an innovator.
To be a competent and confident nurse in charge within the unit.
