Job summary

We are looking for compassionate, enthusiastic and caring individual who has a passion in providing support and care to patients that require an enhanced level of support, during an inpatient stay. This could be for patients that require 1 to 1 support with mental health needs, cognitive impairment, dementia, and enhanced needs.

The successful candidate would need to hold good interpersonal and organisational skills, enjoy a challenge and have a passion to deliver a high standard of patient care.

Main duties of the job

To work with, develop a rapport and to help support individual patients that require an enhanced level of support including 1 to 1 care. Communicating within the immediate clinical team, with medical staff, and liaising with a wide range of professionals involved in a patients care.

To communicate easily and sensitively with people with enhance care needs and their families, demonstrating initiative, carrying out assigned tasks involving direct care in support of, and supervised by a registered nurse. The job includes observing patients behaviour, providing close observation/one to one care to ensure patient safety, encouraging/assisting them with eating, drinking, personal hygiene. Involving them in diversional activities, dealing with anger (explanations, negotiation, and de escalation), assisting in the management of violent episodes. You will need to have an experience or an interest of working with patients with mental health needs, cognitive impairment, dementia, and enhanced needs.

To support and manage a patient caseload in delivering meaningful activities for people with enhance care needs in a hospital environment in accordance with individual identified needs and in line with the multidisciplinary care plan to promote wellbeing. This is a rotational post and will require weekend cover, working 12 hour shifts.
