Job summary

We have an exciting new opportunity for a Band 6 Specialist Frailty Occupational Therapist.

To support the transformation of the acute Occupational Therapy Service, this role will focus on utilising their unique professional skills for maxim impact for those with significant impact to their functional ability. The individual will take responsibility for the provision and development of an effective and highly specialised occupational therapy service within the hyper acute stage of admission, this will include initially pathways in Frailty Dementia/Delirium, Parkinson and Parkinsonism, and any other pathway as identified.

This is an opportunity to deliver specialist services whilst keeping Occupation at the core of practice. With support from the Team Leader, the post holder will take a specialist clinical lead role in the provision and development of an effective and specialised Frailty Occupational Therapy Service, providing specialist education and advice as required.

Main duties of the job

To provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessments and intervention for patients admitted to the hospital whilst working along side care of older people team.

To deliver therapy directly and create assistant plans for persons admitted to support rehabilitation, and or maintenance of independence whilst an inpatient. To assess and consider risks and to plan and deliver timely and safe discharges.

Preferably having some knowledge and experience of seating and positioning and postural management for clients with neurological deficits. These skills will be supported and developed by clinical leads (B7).

Some skills and experience in cognitive assessment, and cognitive rehabilitation. You will be expected to deliver this directly and be able to create rehab plans for occupational therapy assistants to deliver. As above these skills will be supported and developed by clinical leads.

To work in a fast passed acute hospital working alongside the multidisciplinary teams on the wards, working closely with physiotherapy colleagues and rehab assistants to deliver high standard of compassionate and person-centred therapy, with SMART goal setting and therapy focused on enabling function.

The candidate will participate in clinical audit, in policy development and implementation, and be involved in the of implementation of local and national standards.
