The Switchboard operator role is a very challenging and dynamic role for someone who enjoys using their own initiative to provide excellent customer service through a wide variety of tasks.

You'll provide the 1st point of contact for the Trust, using an efficient and reliable service to communicate with the general public, staff, health professionals and emergency services in a courteous and friendly manner and is responsive to the needs of the trust and its users.

This role will include various shifts including 6-2's, 2-10's, 9-5 & nights, including bank holidays, weekends, Christmas and new Year on a 6 week rota pattern that is different every week. All staff will need to be able to cover all shifts.

Switchboard Operators required, Part -time or Fulltime - we are looking for enthusiastic, great communicators to join a very busy and critical service at Musgrove Park Hospital Switchboard.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for enthusiastic, reliable, flexible & customer friendly individuals to join our team at Musgrove Park Hospital.

You'll be fully supported to become confident in handling a wide variety & high volume of calls from the general public, health care professionals & hospital staff.

Our operators are trained to remain calm when dealing with emergency calls, emergency alarms and activating these promptly. As a team we cover a variety of tasks including: key management, ID badges, fire alarms, pool cars & bleeps among many others.

Excellent customer service and communication skills are required as well as the ability to work under pressure as part of a team or as a lone operator.

There will also be requirements to cover an on call rota shared between the team.

Qualifications & Training

Essential

  • Relevant vocational qualification(equivalent to Microsoft Office MOST, ECDL or related qualification)

Desirable

  • NVQ Customer Services or equivalent experience

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Good working knowledge and understanding of PC hardware, operating systems and Microsoft IT packages

Desirable

  • Previous experience of healthcare or large complex organisation
  • NHS Switchboard/Call Centre experience.
