Job summary

Join Yeovil Hospital in this one exciting role as a Clinical Teaching Fellow.

This post provides an exciting opportunity to develop teaching skills in the University of Bristol Medical School Undergraduate Programme in Somerset Academy (Yeovil) and to extend your clinical experience in the ICU Critical Care department.

The role is fixed term for one year from 7TH August 2024 until 5th August 2025, in line with national NHS employers rotation dates.

The post holder will work 2 weeks in Medical Education and 2 weeks in ICU (Critical Care) alternating with a second post holder.

Main duties of the job

Undergraduate Medical Education

Offer the opportunity to be involved in the established education programme for medical students.

You will be under the supervision of the Academy Dean, and the Unit co-ordinators in Year 3 Medicine & Surgery and Year 5 Medicine & Surgery.

Teaching will involve small group tutorials, seminars, skills based practical sessions, and bed-side teaching.

The focus will be on Year 3 student teaching and experience will be available in SimMan clinical scenario teaching and assessment.

You will be expected to undertake a funded the Certificate in Medical Education with the University of Bristol.

Critical Care Medicine

The Critical Care side of the job will consist of working on the intensive care unit on an alternate week (alternate fortnight) basis alongside the supervising consultant and other junior doctors as required.

Training will be given in assessment and management of the critically ill patient, ventilatory, cardiovascular, renal support and gain airway skills in operating theatre environment.

The successful applicant will also take part in our in-house patient transfer course.

This job carries contractual out of hours on-call commitment.

As the applicant would work closely with the intensive care consultants there would be the opportunity to develop special interests. We would do our best to support these.

The successful applicant will be allocated an Educational Supervisor to oversee their training requirements
